Backend & infrastructure
engineering, done precisely.

Bitsquare is a one-person software studio out of Cluj-Napoca, Romania. We build the kind of systems that have outgrown off-the-shelf tools — custom orchestration, distributed queues, deliverability stacks, AI integrations, and the deployment glue around them.

// what we do

Engineering for systems
that outgrew the tutorial.

Brought in when the obvious solution doesn't scale, the bill stops making sense, or a piece of the system needs to be built from scratch.

Backend systems

NestJS, Laravel, Symfony, Node.js services. Event-driven architectures, REST & RPC APIs, custom queue and job-processor layers built for heterogeneous workloads.

Infrastructure & DevOps

AWS end-to-end (EC2, VPC, target groups), or moving off it. Custom Docker / Compose orchestration with Bash control planes. GitHub Actions, Nginx, deploy pipelines.

Email infrastructure

High-volume SMTP inbound and outbound. Automated SPF / DKIM / DMARC, reverse-DNS provisioning, IP and domain warm-up & rotation for clean deliverability at scale.

AI & LLM integration

Production LLM features — natural-language flows, structured-data extraction, agentic workflows. MCP server development to expose your product to AI agents.

Web3 backends

EVM wallet authentication, wallet-signature cryptography & encryption, basic Solidity contracts, and the backend plumbing that ties them to a real product.

Cost & performance

When the cloud bill or DB size has gotten out of hand. Profiling, sizing, cold-data offload, deduplication, and rebalancing — measured in real money saved.

// selected work

Real systems. Real numbers.

A sample of what good engineering looks like in production — drawn from senior IC and tech-lead work across the last decade.

EtherMail · Tech Lead

case 01

From AWS to a custom Docker cloud — without losing performance.

Designed and led the migration off AWS to a custom Docker / Compose cloud, orchestrated by a Bash control plane that selects services per host, isolates scalable workers, and rebalances containers for rough auto-scaling.

EtherMail · Backend

case 02

Shrinking a multi-terabyte MongoDB without losing data fidelity.

Designed an S3 cold-data offload & deduplication pipeline that collapsed working-set storage from 4–5 TB to 300–400 GB — while keeping query paths transparent to the application.

EtherMail · Platform

case 03

A custom queue & job-balancing engine for heterogeneous workers.

Off-the-shelf brokers couldn't account for workers of differing capacity. Built one in-house — distributing work fairly across a fleet that mixes burst, sustained, and IO-bound jobs.

  • capacity-aware dispatch
  • back-pressure aware
  • rebalances on worker churn

EtherMail · Backend

case 04

Hundreds of millions of events through a Laravel rewards engine.

PHP service (Laravel + Nova with heavy custom work) powering an event-driven rewards and gamification system at a scale most teams reserve for "real" data pipelines.

  • Eloquent at scale, with care
  • custom Nova admin surface
  • event-driven, idempotent

EtherMail · Cryptography

case 05

Wallet-signature end-to-end email encryption.

E2E encryption keyed off the product's EVM identity layer — the wallet signature is the user's identity and the basis for key derivation.

VibeFunnel AI · Backend

case 06

Agentic workflows & an MCP server for an AI page builder.

LLM-driven page section & lead-magnet generation, multi-step agentic pipelines, plus an MCP server exposing platform functionality to Claude Desktop and other clients.

// about

One engineer.
Senior end-to-end.

Bitsquare SRL is a Romanian software company based in Cluj-Napoca, run by a senior backend & infrastructure engineer with around a decade in software and another seven years before that on industrial automation and high-power distribution sites.

The studio model is deliberate: no hand-offs, no juniors learning on your codebase, no agency overhead. You get a senior IC who has shipped the work end-to-end — architecture, code, infrastructure, deployment, and the calls in between.

Currently leading infrastructure at EtherMail, a Web3-native email service, with bandwidth for one or two parallel engagements. Best fit for teams that need senior backend or infra firepower without spinning up a full agency relationship.

How do engagements work? +

Typically fixed-scope projects, retainer for ongoing platform work, or fractional tech-lead arrangements. Always with a written scope and clear deliverables.

Remote, on-site, or hybrid? +

Default is remote (CET / CEST). On-site visits in Cluj-Napoca on request, and travel for kickoffs is on the table.

Who is the typical client? +

Product teams that have a backend or infra problem too senior for a contractor and too narrow for a full hire — or a founder who needs a senior engineer in the room from day one.
